Which papers should you practise?

OCR Higher uses Papers 4, 5, 6. Papers 4 and 6 permit a calculator; Paper 5 does not. Confirm your board and tier with your exam centre. Check the official OCR assessment information and follow each practice paper’s cover instructions when timing a session.

Check OCR Higher paper numbers before downloading

OCR Higher uses Papers 4, 5 and 6; Papers 1, 2 and 3 belong to Foundation. Paper 5 is the non-calculator paper. Label revision folders with both tier and paper number to keep your resources organised.

Practise reasoning, not just final answers

When reviewing a solution, ask why its method applies. Simultaneous equations require a result satisfying both equations. Trigonometry requires the correct triangle and relationship. Algebraic proof needs statements that hold generally, not a single successful numerical example.

If time runs out, identify the stage where you got stuck: interpreting the question, rearranging an expression or calculating. Practise that stage separately before returning to the whole problem.

Make a useful Higher error log

  1. Record the question and the skill being assessed.
  2. Identify the first incorrect step.
  3. Explain the corrected method in a sentence.
  4. Retry later and record whether you needed help.

Also review answers obtained by guessing. A secure method is one you can reproduce and justify. Combine these resources with official past papers and class revision to maintain broad topic coverage.
