Which papers should you practise?

Edexcel uses Paper 1 without a calculator and Papers 2 and 3 with a calculator at both tiers. Confirm your board and tier with your exam centre. Check the official Edexcel assessment information and follow each practice paper’s cover instructions when timing a session.

Break Higher problems into useful steps

Higher practice is valuable when you review the decisions behind a solution. For a problem linking algebra and geometry, label the diagram, express the relationship as an equation and solve it before substituting back. This reveals whether an error came from modelling, algebra or calculation.

Keep exact values where appropriate until the final answer. On calculator questions, record the expression you entered and check that the result makes sense. On non-calculator work, show a chain of equivalent expressions rather than an unexplained decimal.

Balance difficult questions with reliable marks

After marking, choose one accessible question you lost marks on and one multi-step question you could not finish. Secure the first method, then rebuild the second in stages. Underline what you must find, list the information given and write the first useful relationship.

For a quadratic describing a length, decide which solutions are valid in context. Solving the equation is only part of the task. Do not use a predicted topic list as a replacement for revising the full course.
